My inner five year old squealed like a schoolgirl when this assignment got the green light. I was born in horse country and horses were everywhere and in my life. I wouldn’t realize how lucky I had been until I moved across the USA to suburban Pennsylvania at the age of six. Now, horses aren’t very far at all and I have the beauty of Griffith Park to enjoy a generous hour worth of horseback riding.
Deciding to take my niece along for her first experience with horses, we picked a gorgeous day in January to venture to the Griffith Park Horse Stables in Burbank, adjacent to the Disney animation studios. Having never been there before, I was confused on how this place could advertise horseback riding through Griffith Park if the stables were across the freeway! Aha, I soon came to realize that part of our sojourn took us through tunnels under the freeway and right up to the grand entrance of the famous park! Genius.
Amazed at the panoramic views we witnessed, I distinctly recall thinking, “No one should pass up the opportunity to see Los Angeles from this perspective.”
See for yourselves in the video blog:
The guides will make even the most horse-wary rider feel safe and secure, even in the face of surprisingly shy coyotes (which we encountered). Be sure to tip your guide and your horse – with a carrot inexpensively purchased at the stables.
