If you’re up for some great entertainment, pirate style, you don’t want to miss Pirate’s Dinner Adventure in Buena Park.

Seriously! We had a blast. It was my daughter’s 11th birthday, so we decided to try something different and adventurous to celebrate. To be honest, I wasn’t entirely sure how it would fare among my all girl troop at the helm, but they were super entertained and loved every minute of it. In fact, McKenna informed me that this was the best birthday ever! You know this Momma loved hearing that.

The overall atmosphere was super fun. There’s something in every nook and cranny of the showroom to catch your eye and make you feel like you’re in a real pirate adventure. We were greeted very warmly and enjoyed some yummy pirate-style appetizers… some carved turkey on a slab of bread and chicken fingers (that actually resemble fingers!) As an added bonus, since Halloween is fast approaching, they had some extra spooky decorations hanging around as well, and feature a special Halloween Spectacular show during the month of October, if you dare to check that one out.

They started things out with a pre-show of sorts, welcoming us and filling us in on the fact that this was the 10th anniversary of their liberation from Captain Sebastian the Black and his lot of murderous, thieving pirates. Lo and behold, in the middle of the festivities, Captain Sebastian’s wife, Treasure, crashed the party and captured the good guys, the royal princess and the rest of us! As we were divided up among the thieving pirates, and given a color, we were marched into the show room, complete with a pirate ship full of all the accompanying masts, sails, treasure, and swords, and a surrounding moat for good measure.

We lucked out and were seated front and center. Our pirate, Cutthroat Jack, who of course was the meanest pirate of all, gave us the scoop as we, the red team, rooted him on during the course of the show. We were so impressed by the amount of interaction with the audience. They really pull you in and literally make you a part of the show. McKenna, the birthday girl, was taken onto a dingy to ride around the moat during one part of the show, which she loved, of course. Then, at one point, my husband Greg ended up being captured and roped off onto the ship while all of my kiddos (and many others) were led up onto the deck to be sworn in as honorary pirates. What a treat for them!

The service was great, too, and the food was delicious. We started off with salad or soup and pitchers of soft drinks as the show began. Once into the show, we were brought out our choice of Roasted Chicken with Spanish Rice and Broccoli or BBQ Pork with Mashed Potatoes and Broccoli, and the kids’ menu had those choices or two Mini Burgers with fries. Very tasty! We were quite pleased. And the portions are very generous. We ended up with two to-go boxes. Of course, we did manage to save some room for the Apple Cobbler a la Mode. Yum!

I don’t want to give too much away because I’m certain you’ll want to get on over there and see for yourself. But let me just say that this show is super action packed, so don’t blink. It has everything a pirate show should have, with fighting and fencing, capturing and rescuing, looting, and even some loving. The acting, singing, acrobats (yes, an acrobatic gypsy that will amaze you!), costuming, and choreography were delightful and impressive. We loved the loud booms of the canons and gunshots and the spooky, smoky dry ice effects on the water, as well as the fun-loving, comical shenanigans of some of the pirates. We will definitely be visiting our favorite pirates again and be sure to bring our friends and family when they visit from out of town!

Ahoy, mateys!

Guess I'll have to suggest that those buccaneers roast me up a veggie or two in between their pillaging ;)

Unfortunately Nightowl I guess Pirates are meat lovers and haven't come up with a vegetarian option. It was BBQ'd pork or roasted chicken for the main course. But hey, maybe you're on to something and can suggest it! :)
