Bio

I'm Phoenix and I'm a first generation Taiwanese-American who grew up dual-everything. Dual-culture, dual-cities, dual-ideals, you name it. The world is my strawberry-kiwi drink. I hail from Irvine, CA though I've also lived across the way in Tustin and I spent my university years in Los Angeles (fight on, Trojans!) as well as four chilly months in France. I love to travel but I also love kicking it back on my own turf. I love a good concert at the House of Blues but I also enjoy the tranquility of the MOCA. I'm quiet until you put a karaoke mic in my hand...while I'm sober. It may seem kind of strange but it's two sides of the same Phoenix to me.

Just as my handle invokes the image of a bird springing back to life from the ashes, I strive to share things with people in a new light and with a twist. I'm here to show you both the grand things and the small things this wonderful area has to offer.

For immediate release: Art is not dead and that there's more places to eat at than just the fast food joint with its seductive neon signs. See inside for more details.

Newport Film Festival Gala 2010

The forecast had called for rain on Thursday April 22nd but not a
single drop fell upon the opening night of the 2010 Newport Film Festival (April 22nd-29th). Now in its 11th year, the festival has grown from its modest roots and its simple desire to showcase independent films with a greater audience.

Gallery Nucleus - James Cameron's Avatar Informal Q&A

It is no secret that I am an art nerd. I was more excited about going to art museums and galleries for free than I was about being able to legally drink alcohol while I was studying abroad in France my

junior year. I might be a lightweight when it comes to booze but I have no limit when it comes to les beaux artes.

Needless to say, I came back to the United States hungry for more places to venture to: both places that housed the classic and the modern… Continue

A Divine Experience with Shen Yun

My whole childhood was inundated with performance arts. When it came to dance, I had the full course of ballet, tap, and jazz. When I was seven-years-old, my mom added traditional Chinese dance to the mix of western disciplines. The transition wasn’t as hard as some would imagine. The key graceful controlled movements of Chinese dance echoed the composed forms found in ballet. But I didn’t learn the dances in a vacuum. I also grew up watching Chinese dances performances both on telecasts or live… Continue
